Ashton Kutcher & Demi Moore Visit Israel "2 Forge Bonds"

Amidst infidelity rumors, Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore jetted off to Israel this weekend.

While a source close to the couple says the pair did not renew its vows in that country, Kutcher Tweeted that he and his wife are "sharing Love & Light while in Israel [and] asking 4 the energy 2 forge bonds with our similarities & find compromise in our differences."

Might one of those difference be Ashton's desire to bang Brittney Jones on he and Moore's living room sofa?!?

Truly Happy?

Jonas hasn't been shy about her affair with Kutcher, texting friends about it, talking to Radar Online often and even saying the actor and Moore have an "open marriage."

But the couple has been on a strong, united front in public.

They've appeared at the Clinton Global Initiative and also spent time in Michigan on the set of Moore's upcoming film The Reasonable Bunch over the last couple weeks. Now, this trip to Israel.

We'll keep readers updated on whether or not their shared energy will forge the bonds necessary to grow old together.

Picture Books Too Babyish (i.e., FUN??) For Kindergarteners

Another day, another New York Times story that you wish wasn’t true. And yet, it seems pretty solid: The sale of picture books for kids in going down, and the reasons range from the fact that they’re high priced (which makes some sense) to the idea that kids should be reading chapter books sooner rather than later (which makes no sense at all).

The article, by Julie Bosman, quotes authors, book stores and publishers, all of whom concur: the picture book is fading. While kids still read Seuss, they’re off to Steinbeck sooner rather than later, in part because their parents don’t want them piddling around with pictures. The parents want them doing “real” reading.

Except that…picture books ARE real reading. I was talking with Gever Tulley the other day — yes, the founder of The Tinkering School — and he said that kids who read non-fiction comic books tend to remember the facts and stories better because of the leap their minds make between the panels. Having to create the connection from one picture to the next engages the brain and cements the lesson better than just plain ol’ reading. So take THAT, pushy parents who want their kids diving into Stendahl instead of Stinky Cheese Man.

Pretty much any book that engages a child is a book worth reading. It gets kids into the groove. It must be turning on their brains, or they’d put it down. And if the kids are reading picture books even into their double digit years, well, ’tis better to read than to not read. My 12-year-old reads Peanuts like the bible — it is his joy in life, his comfort, his compass. To yank that away and say, “Time for ‘Crime & Punishment, kid,” would BE a crime and a punishment.

Picture books: good. Chapter books: good. Reading: good. Simple as that. — Lenore

Legendary Soul Singer Solomon Burke Dies

Solomon BurkeFADEL / AFP / Getty Images

Solomon Burke, a successful soul singer whose hits included 'Everybody Needs Somebody to Love' and 'Cry to Me,' died at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, Holland on Sunday, AP reports. He was 70. A family statement on the singer's website says Burke died of natural causes while traveling to a gig with the Dutch band De Dijk. No further details are currently available.

Burke rose to fame at Atlantic Records, the same label as Ray Charles, in the 1960s, recording numerous hits in a ten-year span with the label, including his first, 'Just Out of Reach,' a country song. Two later hits were prominently featured in films decades after their release: 'Cry to Me,' in 1987's 'Dirty Dancing' starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, and 'Everybody Needs Somebody to Love,' in 1980's 'The Blues Brothers,' starring Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi.

Though Burke didn't achieve the status of contemporaries like James Brown andMarvin Gaye, Atlantic Records producer Jerry Wexler deemed him "the best soul singer of all time," and the range of Burke's music -- combining elements of rock, R&B, pop and blues -- made him stand out.

Burke was born March 21, 1940 in a Philadelphia church to the sound of the church band, according to his website biography. Both the church and music would become a huge part of Burke's life. Alongside his singing career, which continued into this decade, Burke was also a preacher and a family man. In 2000, he performed for Pope John Paul II at the Vatican.

Burke's career had a renaissance in the early 2000s after he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2001. He was then awarded a Grammy in 2002 for his album 'Don't Give Up On Me,' which won the Contemporary Blues Album category. The newfound publicity led to touring, which Burke and his band preferred to do without set lists, instead turning to the audience for requests, blending new songs with decades-old hits.

Burke is survived by 21 children, 90 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Evil Mr. Burns Character Offers Weezer 10 Million Dollars To Disband

Seattle resident James Burns, organizer of an online petition at thepoint.com, is calling on all haters of Weezer to pledge money in order for the band to cease fire in the recording studio. Burns, who claims he has never been a fan of the band, refers to Weezer’s latest work as “an abusive relationship” and says he is doing this for the sake of Weezer’s fans. “I am tired of my friends being disappointed year after year. I am tired of endless whimsical cutesy album covers and music videos.” As I write this piece the pledge to end all things Weezer still has $9,999,864 to go. But who’s to say Rivers Cuomo would even accept the money? Maybe he and his band could use the extra spending money to pack up and move to Beverly Hills… that’s where they want to be.

Are you someone who wants to see Weezer break up? Put your money where your mouth is and donate. Don’t worry, your credit card is only charged if the 10 million dollar mark is reached. Chances are you won’t be overdrawing this month.

Hmm…very inneresting!

Rihanna recently revealed that she and her friend Katy Perry are planning to collaborate on a song, either for her upcoming album Loud! or for the re-release of Perry's Teenage Dream!

She explains:

"We just clicked. We have similar personalities and a similar sense of humour and from there she just seemed like a really down to earth person. In this industry you don't meet a lot of people that are genuine, but Katy is such a free spirit, she has no edit button! We want to get in the studio and hopefully make something for this album, who knows - or maybe for her re-release. We want to do something together for sure."

Is that right, bb?

Aren't you concerned that the song will sound 'generic?!'

LOLs!

Time to put that foot in your mouth, gurl, especially if you two want to continue to be friends, let alone collaborate!

Thoughts??
